Mariners' Memorial Service
Presentation of iron ore cargo & bell-ringing ceremony

DESCRIPTION: All swimmers who participated in the Edmund Fitzgerald Memorial Swim, and their guests, are invited to attend the Mariners' Memorial Service held at the Mariners' Church of Detroit the day after the swim finishes. In the memorial service, the four swimmers who finished the swim at the Detroit Yacht Club earn the honor of presenting the iron ore carried from Lake Superior to receiving dignitaries. Swimmers in attendance will get to read the names of the Edmund Fitzgerald crew and ring the church bell 30 times ... once for each of the 29 crew members and once for all mariners lost on the Great Lakes.

All Edmund Fitzgerald Memorial Swim participants, their guests, and the general public are invited to attend the Mariners' Memorial Service for FREE. The church sanctuary has a capacity of approximately 350 (400 including overflow seating).
